Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY NEWBORN SESSION?

The best time to book your session is during your 3rd trimester of pregnancy or around week 30-32. I know due dates aren’t set in stone, but it helps me plan my calendar so I don’t schedule too many around the same time. I generally only do one photo session per week, so the sooner you get on my calendar, the better. I also have a Baby Registry, so you can use Leslie Amy Photography as an option in your baby shower invitations. I will provide you with small cards you can mail with invitations.

The session needs to happen in the first two weeks of life, but is BEST between 7 – 9 days old. There are several reasons this is so important, one is because a brand new baby’s bones haven’t hardened completely yet, they are still very flexible and posable and curl up easily, like they were in the womb. They are also the sleepiest when they are a few days old, and since we have to move them around a lot, older babies tend to wake up easier. I’m not saying you can’t get beautiful photos of your baby at one month old, but the style of newborn photography you see all over my website is done in the first 2 weeks.

WHERE WILL THE SESSION TAKE PLACE?

My sessions are done in my studio in Conway, Arkansas. I have an awesome studio space complete with a client lounge, snack and coffee bar, nursing recliner plus a huge stash of blankets, buckets, furs, headbands, bonnets and outfits. Get a better look at my studio here.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN A NEWBORN SESSION?

First of all, expect an awesome and fun day watching your tiny little love being wrapped up looking cuter than you can imagine!!

A full newborn session will last 3-5 hours, depending how sleepy and content baby is. I allow plenty of time for feeding, changing diapers, soothing, etc so there is never a feeling of being rushed. Your session will be the only one I do that day so it’s all about YOU! I will encourage you to sit and put your feet up and relax!

Most of my photos of baby are either naked or wrapped in a newborn wrap. I don’t use regular normal newborn clothing in my photos because they rarely fit a brand new baby! Scrunched up clothes are not good in heirloom photos.  I have many stretch wrap colors for us to choose from. For baby girls, I have a ton of headbands and bows and bonnets as well, so there is no need to bring your own, unless you have a special one you’d like to use. I have lots of baby boy things too.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE SESSION?

We will get together again 4 – 6 weeks after session day for me to present the final edited images in a beautiful slideshow set to music. With the exception of one sneak peek on social media, this is when you will first see your gorgeous images, it’s one of my favorite parts of this whole experience!  That is also when we will work together to place your order, so  all decision making adults needs to be present at this meeting so the order can be finalized. Your complete gallery will have 30 – 40+  edited images, presented to music in a slideshow. I will have product samples and will go through all of our product line with you. You will finalize your order at this meeting and it will take 2-3 weeks for your order to be packaged and ready for pickup.

WHAT TYPES OF SESSIONS DO YOU OFFER?

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

HOW DO I GET MORE INFORMATION?

If you like what you’ve seen so far and want more information, submit your information here to get our Guide delivered to your email immediately: Get the Information Guide

If I have availability for your estimated due date, I will let you know and we can chat on the phone, or better yet, you can come tour the studio and let me show you around.
I know there are many newborn photographers out there. Please do your research and make sure you find one who is experienced with the posing and handling of tiny newborns. You aren’t hiring just a photographer, you’re putting your precious newborn in this person’s hands for 3-4 hours, to care for, soothe and pose safely. Newborn safety is very important to me! I absolutely love what I do and would love to meet you and your sweet baby!
