Congratulations! Your family has expanded again!
I know as parents, your dream is to have a precious photo of all of your children together. However, please keep a few things in mind…
The toddler siblings may not be as excited (at first!) about this new baby as you are 🙂 The first week or two can be challenging for toddlers, so it might take a little while for them to fully embrace having a baby sibling.
So please keep your expectations in a healthy perspective! Our session isn’t going to be your only chance for sibling photos, so if big brother/sister isn’t cooperating, don’t despair! A later scheduled family session or milestone session might be more realistic and produce a better image.
We have several posing ideas, depending on the age of the big siblings. We can lay them all on a big piece of fur and take the shot from above. This pose can be practiced at home before the session.
For older siblings, we can sit them on the wood floor and help them hold their swaddled baby sibling.
“In some ways siblings are more influential in your childhood than your parents.”
– Deborah Tannen
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
Swaddle the new baby and let the big siblings practice holding them under close supervision. Then they will know what to expect at our session.
“What should I bring for the siblings to wear?”
I recommend solid colored clothing, either light in color, or dark, whatever your preference is. I do have some dresses for girls and some rompers for boys, you are welcome to look through those when you arrive for the session.
